Clay Smith is a junior designer and studio coordinator at Celadon Books, a division of Macmillan, assisting the Creative Director, Anne Twomey, and designing book covers for the imprint. Clay graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with a degree in Graphic Design.
While in school Clay studied everything from illustration and typography design to digital fabrication and coding. Before her time with Celadon, she interned at several places, including a nonprofit and branding studios before deciding to follow a spur of the moment impulse in to book design.
Although she was born and raised in North Carolina, Clay now considers herself a true New Yorker, as she moonlights as a dog walker, avoids eye contact while commuting, and works in a century-old skyscraper in Lower Manhattan.
