NEW YORK, NY (October 2, 2025) – In 2021, at the height of the pandemic, Celadon Books, a division of Macmillan Publishers, had the honor of publishing The Book of Hope. From her childhood bedroom in Bournemouth, unable to travel the world as she so often did, Jane worked tirelessly—appearing on endless Zoom calls, urging people everywhere to keep hope alive by taking action to make the world more compassionate and sustainable for people, especially children, and animals.
Near the end of The Book of Hope, Jane reflected on her next “great adventure”: “Last year during question time at the end of one of my lectures, a woman asked me, ‘What do you think your next great adventure will be?’ I thought for a bit and then I suddenly realized what it might be. ‘Dying,’ I said… Well, when you die, there’s either nothing, in which case, fine, or there’s something. If there’s something, which I believe, what greater adventure can there be than finding out what it is.”
We do not know what Jane has discovered on her final great adventure. But we do know she will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched. Her work on behalf of the planet, its people, and its animals will endure, and her message of hope will continue to galvanize generations to live with purpose.
